Altamont Speedway Free Festival

The Rolling Stones perform at the Altamont Speedway Free Festival with opening acts Santana, Jefferson Airplane, The Flying Burrito Brothers, and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. The infamous concert is policed by members of the Hells Angels, and four people die, including the murder of Meredith Hunter and three accidental deaths. This is documented in Maysles’ film Gimme Shelter.
