Civil Rights Act of 1968

President Lyndon Johnson signs into law the Civil Rights Act of 1968, promising citizenship to all people born in the United States. The law makes it illegal to discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, or national origin, and defines hate crimes. Fair housing provisions are included.
